INFRAMES Knowledge Co-Production Workshop will be hosted by Appalachian State University
Appalachian State University is leading a project to increase meaningful engagement of interested parties in INFRAMES, with the goals of building and better understanding the social infrastructures needed to strengthen co-production and co-creation of knowledge to assess the sustainability of materials that our society produces at a global scale. To practically enable this goal, we will carry out a place-based engagement testbed centered around one of our core institutions, which is a remote rural PUI. The convening topic of our co-production testbed will focus on the interactions between surface waters and human decisions, targeting microplastics and nutrient cycling in waters. The questions we aim to answer include: (a) who are the relevant stakeholders? (b) how can we meaningfully engage and enable non-academic stakeholders (through, e.g. community engagement in citizen science, integration of the arts, and ongoing co-planning) to contribute to driving the research agenda through participatory co-creation?; and (c) how can we use the co-creation to effectively co-produce materials relevant for the research and educational community? This effort already start in 2023 as presented Knowledge Co-Production - Exploring interactions in High Country surface water & human decisions (youtube.com). The InFrames spring meeting in 2024 will highlight this initiative with a workshop.
